Centru Court of Appeal of Moldova upholds sentence in case of MP Irina Lozovan
The Centru Court of Appeal dismissed as unfounded the appeals filed by the lawyers of Irina Lozovan and her husband against the sentence of the Chisinau Court and upheld the convictions applied to both: six years of imprisonment for the former deputy and five years for her husband.
According to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (PA), the ruling of the court of appeal is final and enforceable from the moment it was pronounced. However, the sides can request a review of the case by appeal to the Supreme Court of Justice within two months.
On March 31, 2025, MP Irina Lozovan was sentenced to six years in closed penitentiary in the case in which she is accused of the illegal financing of a political party on behalf of an organized criminal group. In the same case, her husband, Pavel Gârleanu, district councilor in Ocnita, was sentenced to five years of imprisonment. Neither the deputy nor her husband attended the court session to learn of their sentence, and the court ordered them to be declared wanted.
Publicly available information suggests that Irina Lozovan may have left the Transnistrian region and is hiding in the Russian Federation.
