Chisinau hosts first-ever Postal Workers’ March of Moldova, Romania
The Great National Assembly Square (PMAN) from Chișinău hosted, for the first time, the Postal Workers’ March. The event brought together approximately 800 participants from Romania and Moldova, and highlighted the cooperation between the two postal administrations.
The march was organized by the National Company “Poșta Română” (Romanian Post), through the Poșta Română Foundation, and the State Enterprise “Poșta Moldovei” (Moldova’s Post). This year’s edition had a special significance, being held under the aegis of the centenary of the first airmail and civil flight on the Bucharest–Galati–Chisinau route.
Present at the event, Ambassador of Romania to Moldova Cristian-Leon Turcanu praised the role of postal workers in strengthening the relations between people and communities.
“This event showed, once again, the strength of the cooperation between Romania and Moldova and rightly celebrated the mission that postal workers carry out professionally, with responsibility and empathy in our community. Because history has taught us, on both banks of the Prut, to build bridges between people when stone bridges were hard to cross, and to write letters when distances were too great or words too difficult to speak. And in the millions of envelopes delivered by Poșta Română and Poșta Moldovei over time, postal workers have carried letters as signs of life, letters of longing, letters of enthusiasm and letters of joy,” the ambassador said.
The Postal Workers’ March is a traditional professional-sport competition organized by Poșta Română, launched in Bucharest in 1977. The event was created to showcase the physical endurance, discipline and competitive spirit of postal workers, a profession that involves daily travel over long distances, in order to deliver mail and postal services.
Over the years, the march has become one of Poșta Română’s best-known internal competitions, bringing together thousands of employees each year at local and national stages. The best participants have represented Romania at international postal workers’ competitions, including at the Balkan level.
