CNMC: Declaring state of emergency would allow rapid interventions to ensure energy supply and mobilize resources to repair damaged infrastructure
The Republic of Moldova could enter a state of emergency in the energy sector for a period of 60 days, after the Isaccea–Vulcănești power line was disconnected following attacks on energy infrastructure in southern Ukraine, announces the National Crisis Management Center (CNMC).
The proposal is to be examined by the Government during an extraordinary meeting scheduled for 13:00, after which it will be submitted to Parliament. The decision comes in the context of a meeting convened in the morning by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, where risks and necessary measures for managing the situation were analyzed.
According to the CNMC, declaring a state of emergency would allow rapid interventions to ensure energy supply, mobilization of resources to repair damaged infrastructure, and shorter timelines for adjusting tariffs, including in order to prevent possible disruptions in the supply of fuel needed for generators.
The authorities note that crashed drones were found near the affected infrastructure, which requires access restrictions and demining works before technical interventions can begin. For this reason, the exact duration of the repairs cannot yet be estimated.
In parallel, the transmission system operator “Moldelectrica”, together with partners from Romania and Ukraine, has activated alternative energy supply routes, including 110 kV interconnection lines, to maintain the stability of the power system.
The CNMC and the Ministry of Energy are drafting a set of measures aimed at protecting critical infrastructure, ensuring the continuity of essential services such as water, healthcare, and public order, as well as reducing the impact in the event of potential outages.
The authorities urge the population to use electricity responsibly, especially during peak hours, and to follow safety recommendations, including moderate use of electrical appliances and preparation of alternative lighting sources.
The CNMC platform coordinates the actions of the institutions involved, and the Ministry of Energy will provide technical updates as the situation evolves. The safety of citizens and field teams remains a priority, the authorities underline.
