Drone identified in north Moldova district of Gerbera type; police say drone does not contain explosives, poses no threat to public safety
The drone identified nearby the Pepeni village, northern Sangerei district, is of the Gerbera type, used for deception. The flying apparatus does not contain explosives and poses no threat to public safety.
According to the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), after the drone had been found on a hill near the Pepeni village on last Saturday, two men dismantled it, removing its engine and other parts.
"The object was brought to the village today, without reporting it to authorities. Police officers intervened on the scene for checks and assessing the situation. Law-enforcers established that it is an unmanned aerial vehicle, of the Gerbera type, used for deception. The system can be used both as an improvised attack means and for observation and information-gathering missions, including the identification of anti-aircraft defense systems and monitoring the impact of other aerial platforms," IGP said.
The institution also specified that all component parts of the drone, dismantled on Saturday, were found at one of the men's homes. They do not contain explosives and the object did not pose a threat to public safety.
In the context, police warn citizens not to touch or attempt to transport fallen drones or similar objects.
"Maintain a distance from the discovered drone until authorities arrive. Avoid handling unknown objects, in order to prevent any risk," specified the IGP.
In case of identifying similar objects, it is important for individuals to immediately notify the police by calling the 112 Service.
