Dumitru Obada re-elected as president of Moldova's Superior Council of Prosecutors

Dumitru Obada has secured a new two-year term as President of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP), after all 11 members of the Council voted unanimously "without reservations." CSP member Rodica Ciobanu described the  vote as a "sign of confidence" in Obada's work.

Dumitru Obada was the sole candidate for this position. In his statements, he emphasized that there were no arrears in the previous mandate that began on January 3, 2024:

"From my point of view, there are no arrears, and what we set out to do in January we have accomplished 99 per cent. What we failed to achieve was not due to the Council's capabilities, but external factors, including the normative base and the existence of other committees influencing CSP's activities. In 2024-2025, we reviewed over 160 disciplinary procedures and appointed more than 30 new prosecutors to positions. (...) Thank you, esteemed colleagues, for the vote of confidence, it is a great honor and a great responsibility for tomorrow. Only together will we succeed," said Obada.

The previous mandate took place in a context marked by institutional challenges, complex reform processes, and constant pressures on the prosecutorial system, CSP members noted.

"On this period, CSP's activity was aimed at ensuring institutional functioning and managing processes within its constitutional competence," said Andrei Cebotari, CSP member.

"The vote given, without reservations, is a sign of confidence that the Council expresses for Dumitru Obada's performance as CSP president," said reporter Rodica Ciobanu, CSP member.

Dumitru Obada has been working in the prosecutorial system since 2012. On April 29, 2021, he was appointed chief prosecutor of the Criminological Analysis, Advisement and Legislation Proposals Section within the Policy, Reforms, and Society's Interests Protection Department of the Prosecutor General's Office, for a five-year term. In June 2022, he was designated as the governmental agent of  Moldova  to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), a position from which he resigned in mid-December 2023.
