Former MP Constantin Țuțu to learn sentence on 27 January 2026
Former democratic MP Constantin Țuțu, investigated for fraud, influence peddling, illicit enrichment, and fake statements delivered his final words today before the magistrates at Buiucani Court. He faces a 15-year prison sentence and is set to learn his fate on 27 January 2026.
The former lawmaker was escorted from Prison No. 13 in Chișinău by police officers, who remained close to him throughout the court session.
Constantin Țuțu stated in court that the charges against him represent "an abuse" and denied his involvement in the crimes. He mentioned that he will present evidence to prove his innocence in court. He also claims to have reported even the donations he received at family events.
The ex-parliamentarian is investigated for influence peddling and illicit enrichment.
Țuțu was detained on 22 July at Athens Airport, along with former leader of the Democratic Party Vladimir Plahotniuc. After spending a few weeks in detention in Greece, Țuțu was released and reached the Transnistrian region, later being declared wanted. On 2 October, he showed up at a Moldovan-Ukrainian border crossing point and was arrested.
