Heavy showers forecast all over Moldova; National Crisis Management Center orders measures to prevent flooding
The National Crisis Management Center (CNMC) has ordered a string of flood prevention measures addressed to ministries, intervention institutions and local public authorities. These measures target the inspection and monitoring of hydrotechnical facilities, dikes, dams and water reservoirs, the assessment of critical transport, energy and communications infrastructure, as well as the preparation of teams and resources necessary for rapid response interventions.
The measures were adopted in the context of the yellow and orange weather warning for atmospheric instability, in force between June 11–12 across the entire country.
Local public authorities have been requested to clean and unclog ditches, gutters, and stormwater drainage channels, identify flood-prone areas and inform the population about existing risks and protection measures.
Nationally, institutions responsible for emergency situations have checked the state of readiness of personnel, equipment and intervention tools, including motor pumps, electric generators, reserves of materials to limit the effects of floods, and other means needed to support the population.
“All institutions involved in managing emergency situations are in a state of readiness and are cooperating continuously, in order to respond promptly to any requests for assistance and to provide support to affected people. Citizens are urged to follow official information and warnings issued by the authorities. In the event of an emergency, immediately call 112,” CNMC underlined.
Meteorologists have forecast for quite heavy showers for June 11 and 12, with rainfall totals of 50–79 l/m², while in some regions short-term showers accompanied by lightning are expected, locally heavy downpours (15–49 l/m²), with hail and wind gusts of up to 15–20 m/s.
