Foreign Ministry provides consular assistance to Moldovan citizens affected by accident in Romania
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) is providing consular assistance to Moldovan citizens who suffered as a result of the accident that occurred this morning in Galați County, Romania. The institution is also prepared to facilitate the repatriation of the body of the 62-year-old man who died following the impact.
According to the information received by the Consulate General of the Republic of Moldova in Iași, there were 50 people and the Red Plan of intervention was activated.
“Following the accident, 16 victims were registered: one deceased person, 14 people transported to hospitals in Tecuci and Bârlad, and the driver refused hospitalization. The Consulate is in contact with the Romanian authorities and the medical units involved. The relatives of the deceased person and of the injured persons have been informed, and the transport company has ensured the transfer of the unaffected passengers,” the MFA announced.
The diplomatic mission is providing consular support, including for the repatriation of the body, and is monitoring the condition of the injured, being prepared to initiate, if necessary, the procedure for medical repatriation.
The circumstances of the accident are being investigated by the competent authorities in Romania, one of the hypotheses being that the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
