Moldova launches 112MD app for faster, safer emergency services

Moldova has officially launched the 112MD application, a modern tool meant to streamline emergency services and ensure rapid intervention in critical situations. The app enables calling the 112 emergency service with automatic transmission of the user's location and relevant profile data, provides silent emergency chat via the "I can't speak" function, safety alerts and warnings, information about important nearby points and first aid instructions.

"This application is more than just a digital tool. It is a concrete expression of our commitment to making emergency services more accessible, faster and closer to each person. In critical situations, every second counts, and when someone is in danger, simple and efficient access to help can make the difference between life and death. 112MD brings modern functionalities meant to respond to the real needs of citizens," said the Director of the 112 Service, Anatolie Viniciuc.

The application was designed for people with speech and hearing disabilities, as well as for any situation in which the user cannot communicate verbally. The "I can't speak" function allows essential information about the emergency to be sent and enables a text or video dialogue with 112 service operators.

"This is an important step towards a more inclusive, more equitable emergency service, better adapted to the needs of every citizen. The modernization of the 112 service is not just a vision, but a real step already implemented, opening new possibilities for the development of emergency services in Moldova," added Anatolie Viniciuc.

An MP of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), Ludmila Adamciuc, highlighted the impact of the app on vulnerable citizens.

"It is more than an application; I believe it is a tool that brings more safety, more autonomy and more inclusion. The possibility, through this app, to transmit real-time location, to communicate through images or text, and to be adapted for people with visual and hearing impairments shows that the state protects and does not leave vulnerable people behind," said Ludmila Adamciuc.

Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Moldova Jaromír Plišek emphasized the international collaboration that had made the app’s development possible.

"Today we are witnessing how technology is put directly at the service of people, ensuring that help becomes faster, smarter and more accessible for each person of this country. What we are celebrating today is the concrete result of the collaboration between Czech and Moldovan experts, who worked side by side, combining their knowledge and experience to generate a real impact for citizens," underlined the Czech Ambassador.

Interior Minister Misail-Nichitin Daniella stressed that the 112 service was launching an app that represents a modern service, meant to provide quick and efficient support when life and health are in imminent danger.

"It is more than an application or an emergency number. It is an extra chance at life for every citizen in difficulty. 112MD is not just a technology or an app. It is a life protection tool, a reliable partner for each family and community. Thus, through this application, every quick call, every correctly transmitted piece of information can turn a critical situation into a life-saving moment," the minister specified.

The 112MD application is available for download on mobile devices and represents a significant step in modernizing emergency services in Moldova.
