Moldova's Customs Service, Border Police to implement measures for streamlining cross-border traffic during winter holidays
The employees of the Customs Service and Border Police are operating at enhanced capacity and applying a string of measures, in order to streamline cross-border traffic during the winter holidays, when more citizens from abroad return home, while others go on vacation. The actions are meant to efficiently manage the flow of travelers and vehicles.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the head of the Public Relations Section of the Customs Service, Tatiana Sompol, said that the institution's employees were monitoring the flow of travelers - data regarding waiting times and peak periods are being collected and analyzed continuously. The actions are synchronized between the operational teams in the field and constantly coordinated with border and customs authorities of Romania and Ukraine.
“The authorities have directed the reinforcement of control staff, and front-line officials are supported by mobilizing available resources to their maximum capacity. At the same time, infrastructure optimization is taking place, with additional control lanes being opened and, where necessary, the 'Reversal' procedure is applied – redirecting traffic directions. Similarly, traffic flow separation is applied – distinct direction for trucks, cars and coaches, which contributes to a more efficient organization of traffic,” said Tatiana Sompol.
At the same time, to ensure a smooth and comfortable crossing of the state border, the Customs Service and Border Police provide a set of recommendations for travelers. Therefore, to minimize border crossing time, authorities recommend using all existing crossing points, in order to avoid overburdening only some of them and prevent appearance of queues.
“It is necessary to check the validity and status of the travel document, based on which the state border is crossed. Moreover, you can consult the Online Traffic in Border Customs Posts application on the official website of the Customs Service, in order to know the real-time situation at border crossing points,” added Tatiana Sompol.
Moreover, the 24/7 Single Call Center of the Customs Service is operational at the number: +373 22 78-88-88 and the Border Police Call Center - at the number: +373 22 259 717, where each citizen is able to receive consultations regarding the situation at the border, crossing rules and other public information.
According to the customs authority, the increased flow of travelers is forecast until January 15.
