Moldovan General Police Inspectorate says drone landed in Floresti district is Russian-made Gerbera type
The drone that landed in the northern Floresti district today morning is a Russian-made Gerbera type. Experts have established that the flying device was without any explosive payload.
According to the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), Gerbera-type devices can be used to deceive, for surveillance missions and information gathering, as well as for transporting explosives.
Thus, the estimated characteristics of the drone show a weight of up to 18 kg and a flight range of approximately 600 km. The flight speed is around 160 km/h, and the flight altitude is up to 3 km.
“These drones are meant to land on their own when they run out of power, avoiding crashes and protecting people on the ground, and the jamming technology is designed to help prevent accidents,” said IGP.
Currently, the area stays secured and citizens are safe.
Airspace monitoring systems of the National Army detected six drones illegally crossing the territory of Moldova on the morning of November 25, in the context of massive attacks on Ukraine. Consequently, a drone with the inscription “Z” crashed into an orchard in the village of Cuhurestii de Jos, Floresti district, on the roof of the guard's house. The police intervened to secure the area.
Following the incident, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the violation of the national airspace and said that the accredited ambassador of the Russian Federation would be summoned on November 26 at 14:00 to provide explanations regarding these actions considered unacceptable.
