Moldovan government approves ratification of Agreement with the Netherlands on access to work for diplomats' family members
The government approved, at a today's meeting, the draft law for the ratification of the Agreement between Moldova and the Netherlands on the paid work for family members maintained by the staff of diplomatic missions and consular offices, signed in Chisinau on August 21, 2025.
The agreement aims to facilitate access to the labor market for family members of diplomats on mission, based on the principle of reciprocity. Thus, they will be able to be legally employed in the state where the spouse carries out his or her activities, for the entire duration of the stay.
The document will be applicable both to family members of the staff of the Embassy of Moldova in the Netherlands and those of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Chisinau, strengthening the legal framework of diplomatic relations between the two states.
Moldova has signed similar agreements with the USA, Germany, France, Romania, Canada, Turkey, Poland, Hungary, Belgium, Portugal, and Sweden and negotiations in this regard are underway with India and Spain.
According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the agreement does not involve financial commitments and does not require changes to national legislation, aiming to encourage social integration and strengthen bilateral relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The diplomatic relations between Moldova and the Netherlands were established on July 10, 1992.
To date, 20 treaties and bilateral agreements have been concluded between Moldova and the Netherlands, regulating such areas as the promotion and mutual protection of investments; international road transport; readmission; avoidance of double taxation and prevention of tax evasion, etc.
