Moldovan Interior Ministry's structures deployed in field to support citizens

The structures of the Interior Ministry (MAI) are mobilized and deployed in the field to provide assistance to citizens following the damaged disconnection of the national power system, caused by a voltage drop on the 400 kV Isaccea–Vulcanesti–MGRES (Kuchurgan power plant) line.

Police officers, rescuers and firefighters, carabineers and border police are acting in a coordinated manner, in order to maintain public safety, ease road traffic and manage emergency situations, especially in areas where traffic lights are not working.

According to the MAI, emergency dispatch centers, including the integrated ones in the municipalities of Balti and Cahul (Firefighters, Police and the Emergency Medical Assistance Service), are operating under normal conditions. Power supply is ensured by autonomous generators, so that operational processes are not affected and the activity of intervention teams continues without interruption.

The authorities urge citizens to follow the instructions of law enforcement officers and to call the 112 Service, if needed.

Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu informed that Moldova was facing a delicate situation in the national power system as a result of malfunctions in the electricity network in Ukraine. The official assured that interventions were being carried out urgently and that the authorities’ priority was to restore the power supply as quickly and safely as possible for all affected consumers.

The minister urged citizens to stay calm and assured that the situation would be resolved in at most two hours. “We are cooperating with the energy operator in Ukraine to restore the connections,” the minister said.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu addressed a message to citizens following the major disruptions recorded in the power system of Moldova today morning. The PM called for calm and solidarity, noting that it is natural for people to be concerned when they are affected by the lack of electricity, heating and communications. “I urge you to remain united, to take care of the most vulnerable and to trust that the institutions are working to resolve the problem quickly,” the prime minister added.
