Moldovan PM conveys message on Local Autonomy Day

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu has conveyed a message on the occasion of Local Autonomy Day and the Day of Local Public Administration Employees Workers. He emphasized the essential role of local authorities in development of communities and in solving citizens’ problems.

The PM highlighted the significance of local autonomy, which he described as the responsibility to make decisions in the direct interest of the community.

“Local autonomy means the responsibility to make decisions for the good of the community. We work together, in order to find solutions to people’s problems and to meet the real needs of settlements,” said Alexandru Munteanu.

The prime minister noted that the current public administration reform process was aimed at strengthening local authorities and enhancing their efficiency.

“That is precisely why we are in a process of change, and the reform we have started is for the people and for stronger, more efficient and more respected local authorities. We want mayoralties with more decision-making freedom, digitalization that will ease your work and better public services for citizens,” Alexandru Munteanu underlined.

The PM also thanked all employees of local public administration for their professionalism and dedication in their daily work in support of citizens.

Local Autonomy Day and the Day of Local Public Administration Employees is annually marked in Moldova on February 1. This professional day was established by Government Decision No. 754 of February 8, 2012, in order to recognize the efforts and importance of local administration civil servants.
