National artificial intelligence Olympiad organized in Moldova for the first time

Moldova will organize, for the first time, the National Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (ONIA). Participants will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge of mathematics, computer science and AI, develop critical and creative thinking, and learn how to use modern technologies responsibly.

At the national level, the competition will be held in teams made up of up to two pupils and one coordinating teacher from the educational institution. Pupils aged between 16 and 19 can participate in the Olympiad, whether they have studied the Artificial Intelligence course at school or learned AI individually. Registration is possible by accessing the following link: https://tekwill.online/olimpiada-ai/.

Participants will develop Artificial Intelligence projects that propose concrete solutions to real problems in the community or in the environmental field, using modern technologies, libraries, frameworks and other AI-specific tools.

Projects can be developed in Romanian, Russian or English, and data usage must strictly comply with ethical and legal standards, including data anonymization.

The competition process will include more stages. Team registration will take place until February 10. This will be followed by mentoring sessions from January to May. The submission of projects is scheduled for next May, the selection of finalists will take place in May–June and the ONIA final will be organized in June.

In the final stage, teams will present their projects before a jury composed of Artificial Intelligence experts, university professors and industry specialists, and the final results will be validated by the National Agency for Curriculum and Assessment (ANCE).

The winners of the Olympiad will represent Moldova at the international stage of the Artificial Intelligence Olympiad. In addition, the teams that place first and second will benefit from an intensive training programme before the international competition.

The competition is organized by the National Association of Information and Communication Technology Companies (ATIC), within the Tekwill in Each School project, in partnership with the National Agency for Curriculum and Assessment (ANCE), with the support of the Moldova’s Education and Research Ministry.
