The rehabilitation works at the Costesti–Stanca dam are advancing. Measures carried out on the piezometric system, which monitors the pressure and water level inside the dam body and its foundation, are already 60 per cent completed, both through the restoration of existing boreholes and the drilling of new ones.
According to the Environment Ministry, the slabs in the body of the dam will be restored as part of the project, in order to enhance its safety. The overhaul of the equipment at the intake station and the implementation of maintenance measures for this equipment are also included in the ongoing project.
The works are being carried out by the National Administration “Apele Moldovei” (Moldova’s Waters), with the aim of modernizing and keeping safe the hydrotechnical complex of national importance.
“The floods in recent periods have once again demonstrated how important it is for hydrotechnical facilities to be properly managed and maintained, so that they can fulfill their duties of safety, flow regulation, and flood protection. Given the strategic nature of the Costesti–Stanca dam, its safety is a priority for the authorities,” the ministry emphasized.
The rehabilitation works at the Costesti–Stanca reservoir dam will be completed sooner than initially planned. Although they were scheduled for a two-year period, the good pace of implementation will allow their completion by the end of this year.
