Over 1,600 employees of the Interior Ministry’s (MAI) subdivisions, with 620 vehicles, are mobilized to intervene in managing emergency situations, maintaining public safety and supporting citizens amid snowfall and blizzard conditions. System employees are monitoring the evolution of weather conditions and intervening when needed.

Throughout today, the General Police Inspectorate (IGP) mobilized over 520 police officers and 246 police vehicles, which responded to 336 calls across the entire country. Of these, 36 cases were generated by weather conditions, and 23 traffic accidents were recorded, resulting in three people being injured. In addition to road interventions, police officers stood by the public, providing support with movement, assistance to vulnerable people and help to drivers who encountered difficulties due to icy roads and reduced visibility.

At the same time, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) intervened in seven cases of unblocking and towing vehicles that were snowbound or had skidded off the roadway in the districts of Cahul, Soroca, Orhei, Cantemir, and Hancesti. In addition, rescuers and firefighters supported medical assistance crews, intervening to help ambulances that could not reach patients due to icy roads, including in the districts of Hancesti, Orhei, and Soroca. These interventions allowed medical missions to continue safely and ensured rapid access to patients.

Carabineers were also present alongside citizens. The General Inspectorate of Carabineers is deployed in the field with 105 employees and 22 vehicles, who intervened to directly support the population. Thus, 35 people were helped to move safely on sidewalks and when crossing streets, while 43 drivers received assistance to continue their journeys in safe conditions, especially in the municipalities of Chisinau, Cahul and Comrat, as well as in other localities affected by the weather conditions.

At the state border, the General Inspectorate of Border Police reports that all border crossing points are operational, but traffic is taking place in winter conditions. As a result of restrictions imposed by the Ukrainian authorities on certain road segments, the entry of trucks and passenger transport through some crossing points, including Sculeni, Leuseni, Giurgiulesti–Galati, and Cahul–Oancea, has been temporarily limited. The measure was applied, in order to prevent the formation of queues and the blocking of vehicles on national roads. In the context, border police intervened in 15 cases of unblocking and towing vehicles that remained stuck in the border area.

At the same time, the Chisinau International Airport is operating normally, under winter conditions. Runways are functional and aircrafts are landing and taking off safely. Due to unfavorable weather, three flights were canceled and one flight was rerouted, with no safety incidents recorded.

On the same period, the 112 Service handled over 2,400 calls, most of them related to ambulance requests, police interventions and situations generated by weather conditions.

The MAI urges citizens to exercise maximum caution, avoid unnecessary travel, adapt speed to road conditions and follow official information.

In risk situations, call 112 immediately.
