President: Ukraine deserves just peace, and Moldova to continue to support
Four years after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu conveyed a message of solidarity with the Ukrainian people, recalling the resistance and the sacrifices made in the context of the conflict that began in February 2022.
The head of state noted in a post that “in the dawn of a day that changed history,” Ukraine chose to resist and “has remained standing,” describing the determination of the Ukrainian people as “a light for the entire free world.”
In her message, the president paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the four years of war and expressed compassion for the bereaved families, for those who were wounded, for those who were forced to flee the fighting, as well as for the prisoners of war who, according to her statement, were tortured and humiliated in captivity.
Maia Sandu underlined that the Republic of Moldova will remain grateful to the citizens of Ukraine for defending peace and freedom in Europe and reiterated Chișinău’s position on the need for a just peace for Ukraine.
“Ukraine deserves a just peace. And we will support Ukraine with solidarity,” the president declared.
The war in Ukraine began on 24 February 2022, with the military invasion launched by the Russian Federation, and continues to have major security, humanitarian, and economic consequences in the region, including for the Republic of Moldova, which has hosted hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees since the beginning of the conflict.
