Romanian Language Day to be marked in Ukraine; Moldovan president says Romanian language unites people on both banks of Prut, all the way to Chernivtsi

President Maia Sandu has welcomed the decision by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to celebrate the Romanian Language Day every year on August 31.

The head of state noted that the Romanian language united people on both banks of the Prut and all the way to Chernivtsi.

“A piece of news that brings us joy: Ukraine will celebrate the Romanian Language Day every year on August 31 – the same day on which we also celebrate it. The Romanian language unites us – from both banks of the Prut and all the way to Chernivtsi. We continue to strengthen the ties between our countries,” Maia Sandu said.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree establishing the celebration of Romanian Language Day in Ukraine on August 31. The announcement was made during a press conference held together with the Romanian President Nicusor Dan in Bucharest on March 12.

The Romanian Language Day has been celebrated in Moldova since 1990, and starting from 2012, this holiday has also been marked in Romania.

According to statistics, Romanian is spoken by about 28 million people worldwide and is taught in schools in 43 countries.
