Truck with weapons detained at Leușeni–Albița crossing point
A truck loaded with weapons was detained last night at Leușeni–Albița crossing point. The vehicle is registered in the Republic of Moldova and was headed to Israel.
According to the Customs Service, during the coordinated control on the Moldovan-Romanian border, initial suspicions were raised by the Moldovan customs officer, who informed colleagues from the Romanian customs authority.
“Based on these indicators, by mutual agreement, a scan of the vehicle was ordered on its exit from the Republic of Moldova, an operation carried out by the Romanian side according to established procedures. Following the findings, a criminal investigation was initiated in the Republic of Moldova, and the case is being investigated by the competent security authorities in accordance with the legal framework. We provide full support to the investigation bodies and maintain continuous communication with the involved Romanian authorities,” communicated the Customs Service.
The customs authority noted that at this stage, no further details can be provided so as not to affect procedural actions and specific national security measures. Additional information will be provided later.
According to the Romanian press, the truck was purportedly transporting grenade launchers and several weapons that were disassembled. The parts were to be assembled at the final destination point.
