U.S. Chargé d'Affaires visits Causeni district of Moldova
United States Chargé d'Affaires in Moldova Nick Pietrowicz has visited the south-eastern Causeni district, where he revisited the Assumption of the Mother of God Church, a 17th-century historical monument and one of the country's most valuable architectural treasures. During years, the building has benefited from five grants totaling over 1 million dollars, provided by the U.S. Government – the most extensive American investment to date in the field of cultural heritage conservation in Moldova.
The restoration involved complex work to consolidate, protect and enhance the monument, contributing to the preservation of an essential part of the region's spiritual and artistic history. The church, recognized for its unique frescoes and medieval architecture, remains a major landmark of local cultural identity and an attraction for visitors and researchers.
During the visit, Nick Pietrowicz also met a group of young graduates from U.S.-supported educational programmes, noting their perseverance and vision in developing the local community.
Among them, there was Cristina Savca, an alumna of the Open World 2023 programme and the current director of the Cîrnățeni Gymnasium, who spoke about her goals in modernizing the institution and improving the quality of the educational process.
‘’I am committed to strengthening the institutional capacity of the school, increasing the level of strategic planning, and actively contributing to the well-being of the community I am part of,’’ said Cristina Savca.
At the same time, FLEX graduates Gabriela, Daniel, and David, recently returned from an academic year spent in the United States, shared experiences and new aspirations formed as a result of the programme. They said that the opportunity to study in an international environment had broadened their horizons, strengthened their skills and gave them confidence in future professional projects.
The American diplomat's visit to Causeni reaffirmed the United States' support for the cultural, educational and civic development of Moldova. The church's restoration, along with the support for young people through training programmes represents a simultaneous investment in the past and future – in historical memory and in generations that will build the next stages of the country's evolution.
The event provided a new opportunity for direct dialogue with people involved in change, once again confirming that the Moldovan-American partnership has a real impact on local communities.
