Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF) continues activities in the national campaign „16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence”, with the slogan „Moldova without violence”.

On 4 December, local and international students of the university will organize two flash mobs - „Together we break the cycle of violence”, in front of the Central Teaching Block (Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Blvd, 165), at 14:30, and in front of Teaching Block No. 1 „Leonid Cobâleanschi” (Nicolae Testemițanu Street, 27), at 15:30.

On 9 December, a public lecture on „The integrated response of health system to cases of sexual violence” will be held for students in the Medicine program, followed by a study visit to the Family Justice Center in Chișinău.

Simultaneously, throughout the campaign, leaflets and stickers will be distributed to students, faculty and staff in the teaching blocks of USMF „Nicolae Testemițanu”.

Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread human rights violations in Moldova. United Nations data in Moldova shows that 73% of women over the age of 15 have been victims of violence from a partner, and 40% have suffered physical or sexual violence. Moreover, in the first nine months of 2024, 22 women in our country were killed by partners or family members.

According to official data, in the first 10 months of 2024, the number of protection orders issued by courts rose to 527, a 24% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The electronic monitoring system was applied in 93% of protection order cases, indicating an improvement in the institutional response.

During the national campaign „16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence”, on 25 November - 10 December, USMF „Nicolae Testemițanu” will carry out a series of awareness-raising activities organized by representatives of the Department of Forensic Medicine and the Association of Students and Residents Doctors of Moldova.
