VIDEO // Fake documents bearing Moldovan, Romanian, Italian emblems: illegal scheme dismantled by Moldova's Border Police
The Moldovan Border Police have dismantled a scheme for forging official documents that imitated papers issued by public institutions of Moldova and more European states.
According to the Border Police, the forged documents bore the emblems of public institutions from Moldova, Romania, Italy and other European countries. They are believed to have been produced for use in various situations, including to mislead the competent authorities.
During the investigation, law-enforcement officers established that a 21-year-old man allegedly acted as an intermediary in the scheme. He was reportedly in charge of sending the forged documents to recipients abroad via unaccompanied parcels.
On the basis of warrants issued by the court, the Border Police conducted searches at the suspect’s home and in his car. Following the raids, more items and pieces of evidence relevant to the criminal case were seized.
Initially, the young man was detained for 72 hours. Later, at the request of the case prosecutor, the court ordered house arrest as a preventive measure for a period of 30 days. The suspect is under criminal investigation for forging official documents.
