Warning for Moldovan citizens intending to travel or transit Lithuania
Citizens of the Republic of Moldova intending to travel or transit through Lithuania are warned that they may be subject to additional checks as the Lithuanian Cabinet of Ministers has decided today to set up a state of emergency across the entire country.
According to the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Lithuania, the reason for setting the state of emergency is due to the continuous launch of smuggled meteorological balloons from the neighboring country, Belarus, which may pose a threat to the safety and security of flights operated by civil aviation carriers, especially from the airport in Vilnius.
Thus, starting from October and up to the present, the airport has been closed for more than 60 hours, altering the schedule of more than 350 flights and over 51,000 passengers.
In this context, the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Lithuania has warned citizens planning a trip to Lithuania or just transiting its territory to be prepared for additional controls, which may come from both the police and the military, who have been authorized to stop and check documents and vehicles.
