Works on modernization of Costesti dam start in Moldova
Environment Minister Gheorghe Hajder on 1 December announced, at the Costesti Hydrotechnical Node in the northern Rascani district, the official start of the repair and modernization works on the dam. The interventions will be carried out by the National Administration 'Apele Moldovei' (Moldova’s Waters) and represent the first major works conducted in the area in the last 20 years.
According to the minister, the project aims to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the hydrotechnical structure, which is essential for managing water resources in the region.
During the working visit, the minister also inspected two forest plantations in the Rascani district. The first location was an oak plantation in the village of Saptebani, regenerated after clear cutting. The forest is 10 years old and the sapling settlement rate is 95 per cent. Gheorghe Hajder noted that such works are necessary for developing young and healthy forests.
Subsequently, the minister visited a plantation in the village of Hiliuți, where acacia and ash saplings were planted in 2023, as part of the national afforestation programme. Here, the settlement rate is 82 per cent, according to the presented data.
The official emphasized that the ministry would continue to invest in infrastructure and environmental projects, aimed at contributing to a healthy living for the citizens of Moldova.
