Discover Moldova with #MOLDPRES: Three New Routes from Ungheni Enrich Country's Tourism Bid

Three new tourist routes in the Ungheni region, developed with the support of UNDP and the EU

The routes were created as part of the "EU4Moldova: Key Regions" program, funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

In 2024, the Ungheni region enriched its tourism bid with three new routes: "On the Lands of Movila Măgura", "Bucovina of Bessarabia", and "From the Prut to Movila Măgura", developed by the "Dealurile Măgurii" tourism cluster, in cooperation with the Tourism Development Association in Moldova.

The routes were created as part of the "EU4Moldova: Key Regions" program, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP and UNICEF.

The tourist route "From the Prut to Movila Măgura" includes 36 tourist sites, with a total route length of 118 km. The route starts from the village of Sculeni and continues through Gherman and Alexeevca, passing through Rădenii Vechi and the "Plaiul Fagului" scientific reserve. It offers the opportunity to visit the "Holy Trinity" Church from 1890, the village museum, the "Dulce Plai" factory, and the commemorative sign of Prince G.A. Potemkin of Taurida. The route ends with visits to "Ferma Vilador" guesthouse in Slobozia-Măgura, Mircești Winery for wine tastings and cultural and historical sites in the villages Măgurele and Mircești.

The second route, entitled "On the Lands of Movila Măgura," is 65 km long and takes 8-9 hours. It offers a diverse experience, including tastings of herbal teas and visits to "Ferma Vilador" guesthouse in Slobozia-Măgura village, Sîngerei district, which provides accommodation, meals and leisure. Along the way, tourists can explore Movila Măgura and Slobozia-Măgura village, home to the "Holy Trinity" Church. In Măgurele village, tourists can visit the childhood home of humorist Efim Tarlapan, Țiglău Hill with three crosses, the village museum, and the "Saints Michael and Gabriel" Church. In Mircești, there are historical sites such as the House of the beekeeper Samson Hurghiș, the school built in 1930, and the altar of the wooden "Saint Archangel Michael" Church. The route also includes a visit to the "Saint Prophet Elijah the Tishbite" Monastery and Mircești Winery, where wine tastings are organized. Moreover, "Ferma Vilador" guesthouse and Mircești Winery, part of the "Dealurile Măgurii" tourism cluster, offer services for guests, with "Ferma Vilador" functioning as a tourist information center.

The third route named "Bucovina of Bessarabia" is 50 km long and is partially covered on foot. The route starts at the Bahmut intersection and continues towards the "Plaiul Fagului" scientific reserve, located 4 km away. The next site is the village of Rădenii Vechi, placed 5.6 km away, where tourists can visit the "Holy Trinity" Church, the village museum housed in the House of Culture, the "Dulce Plai" Factory, and the commemorative sign of Prince G.A. Potemkin of Taurida. At a distance of 25 km lies the village of Pîrlița, which offers a local route with attractions such as the village museum, the "Saint John the Baptist" Church, the site of the former wooden "Saint John the Baptist" Church, ruins of the Carastachi-Buharin family's manor, a section of road with old pavement, the former primary school, and the Agricultural Technology Museum. The route ends at the "Poplars without a Partner" guesthouse, located 8 km away.

Each route leverages the advantageous location of the region and highlights unique landscapes and biodiversity, along with tourist attractions, such as natural reserves, iconic mounds, and authentic local traditions. The routes are meant to satisfy different preferences, with varying durations from five-hour excursions to two-day itineraries which include stops and various activities, such as hikes, cultural site visits, and tastings of local products.

"These routes have significant value for the past and present of the region, as they combine the authentic local treasure and represent new tourist attraction points. The developed tourist routes diversify the region's tourism offer and capitalize on the natural and anthropic tourism resources in the Ungheni region," estimates Viorel Prisăcari, manager of the "Dealurile Măgurii" tourism cluster.
