Chisinau, 22 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Bemol oil company, which owns 47 filling stations, today reduced the cost of petrol by 0.20 lei per litre and diesel by 0.15 lei per litre respectively. After changing prices, one litre of the most requested petrol, Premium, costs 18.35 lei, and a litre of diesel can be purchased at a price of 17.35 lei.

"There is a downward trend in prices on international stock exchanges. We received information from some oil companies that the prices will drop by down to 0.50 lei at the pump within 5-6 days," said Deputy Economics Minister Andrian Candu after a meeting with representatives of oil companies on 21 October.

"Oil companies gave assurances that prices will be reduced," said the deputy minister. He added that next week, "if it will be deemed necessary" a new meeting would be held to see whether companies fulfilled their promises, "what the problems are, their excuses, and afterwards we will eventually put sanctions ".

Brent crude prices, the benchmark on international markets, have declined in the past three months by more than 20 per cent against June. The International Energy Agency estimates its further decline, as both the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), as well as producing countries that are not OPEC members, increased their production. The Rotterdam stock prices of petrol and diesel, called Platts quotations, upon which the cost of imports and pump prices depends, have decreased by 14 per cent and diesel by 12.5 per cent on the same period.
