Frosts affect tens of thousands tons of fruit in Moldova

Chisinau, 27 October /MOLDPRES/- Tens of thousands tons of fruits and vegetables from northern Moldova have been affected by the frosts of late last week.
The head of
Agriculture and Food Department from Briceni district, Valeriu Dodu, has told MOLDPRES that, 780 hectares of orchards and 19,000 tons of
apples had been affected by the current frosts.
Representative
of Agriculture and Food Department from the Ocnita district said that, on the last days, over 500 hectares and 12,000 tons of apples had been hit by frost.
Agriculture
and Food Minister Vasile Bumacov today paid a fact-collecting visit to
Donduseni, Soroca, Edinet, Ocnita and Briceni districts, to determine the the extent to which orchards have been affected by frosts.
Bumacov
said that he talked to the heads of agriculture departments from the northern
districts, and once the losses assessed, the authorities would try to find
solutions to help farmers.
