Chisinau, 14 January /MOLDPRES/ - One of the largest oil companies in Moldova, which manages over 100 petrol stations, today lowered the prices on petrol by 0.40 lei per litre and diesel by 0.20 lei respectively.

Pump prices at the filling stations of Lukoil's most requested Premium A95 petrol reached 16.57 lei per litre against the previous price of 16.97 lei. Diesel fuel costs 15.77 lei per litre. The company also lowered the price on liquefied gas by 0.10 lei, reaching 10.17 lei per litre.

Two other companies, Petrom Moldova and Bemol, today notified the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) of the price reductions on petrol and diesel by 0.35 and 0.20 lei per litre respectively. A number of six companies had already reduced fuel prices since the beginning of this week.

Companies lowered retail sale prices of petrol and diesel for the second time this year and the sixth consecutive time starting October 2014.

Interviewed by the agency, the ANRE press service said that the Premium A95 petrol price fell by an average of 18.67 lei per litre in the month of September 2014 down to 16.57 lei, after the last price reduction, representing 11.25 per cent. Diesel prices fell by 10.24 per cent, from 17.57 lei in September down to 15.77 lei per litre today.

Drivers were expecting a more marked decrease in fuel prices amid falling crude oil Brent price from 110 dollars per barrel in early 2014 to 52 dollars. On the other hand, oil companies said they would incur losses in case of even larger discounts, given that last year the Moldovan leu depreciated against the dollar by almost 20 per cent and continued to lose ground against the dollar.
