IMF experts say there is evidence for coming to Moldova of future Fund's mission

Chisinau, 27 May /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today met the team of experts of the International Monetary Fund, led by Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar, on a 23-27 May working visit to Moldova. The PM thanked the IMF mission’s representatives for the work carried out and reconfirmed the cabinet’s determination to have an Agreement with the Fund, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.    

“Our project is that Moldova’s citizens live better and we are resolute to achieve this goal. The signing of an agreement with IMF is part of this project,” Pavel Filip said. The prime minister specified that, to attain the objectives set, will, vision and capacities were needed, and that all these components existed.   

For her part, Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar said that, during this week, substantive discussions had taken place with the leadership of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) and Finance Ministry, which had a constructive and open character. The mission’s goal is to formulate a common vision concerning the measures necessary for ensuring a long-term stability and safety of the Moldovan banking system.

According to the head of the IMF mission, Moldova has made progress concerning the strategy of settling problems in the financial sector and that there was evidence for the coming to Chisinau of a future mission of the Fund. Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar encouraged the government to take a string of measures precursory to the  negotiating mission in terms of fiscal policies and structural reforms.
