Moldovan, American officials broach reforms, cooperation

Chisinau, 23 September /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip has met U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nurland in the context of the Moldovan delegation’s participation in the 71st session of the UN General Assembly. The main topic was related to strengthening the Moldovan-American strategic dialogue, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

Filip thanked the American side for constant support provided in Moldova’s European integration, as well as for financial assistance in implementing different projects.

The premier informed the official about the social and political situation in Moldova. Thus, 90 per cent of the provisions of the roadmap on reform agenda had been achieved, negotiation on a staff level agreement with the International Monetary Fund was carried out, and an agreement with IMF will be signed in October.

Filip approached the reforms promoted by the government, especially, the public administration reform, government reform, territorial-administrative reform and pension system reform. “So far, the political establishment has been afraid to promote these reforms in order not to lose electorate. My priority is not political career, so I will do my best to carry out these reforms important for the country’s modernization,” he said.

For her part, Nurland said she appreciated the work made by the government. “I congratulate the Moldovan government for the achieved results. You have shown courage. Go ahead and have our full support in carrying out reforms,” she said. Nurland urged the government not to fail the opportunity provided by IMF and European Commission and to meet all conditions. Filip assured that all IMF conditions would be met in deadlines.

The sides also broached the regional situation and developments in settling the Transnistrian conflict.

Filip reiterated the importance of US constant support for ensuring peace and stability in Moldova.

In the context, Nurland reiterated her country’s willingness to further back Moldova’s territorial integrity and the Transnistrian conflict settlement.
