Great national poet celebrated in Moldova at 167 years from birth

Chisinau, 15 January /MOLDPRES/ – The national poet Mihai Eminescu was celebrated today in Chisinau, at 167 years after birth.

On this occasion the morning at his bust on the Alley of Classics of Romanian Literature in Public Garden "Stefan cel Mare" laid flowers President of Moldova Igor Dodon, Prime Minister Pavel Filip, MPs, ministers, politicians, writers, culture, admirers of Eminescu.

Here, there took place recital of poetry and music and also evoking the personality of the poet, supported by people of culture and art.

In his speech, the chairman of the Writers Union of Moldova, Arcadie Suceveanu said that the birthday of Eminescu was a celebration of Romanian verb, marked throughout the Eminescian living area. "At 167 years since his birth, Mihai Eminescu was, is and remains our contemporary. He is always actual and his artistic beauties gives us everlasting modeling of truths that shows us who we are in our history, what happens to our human values.​​" said Arcadie Suceveanu.

At his turn, poet Nicolae Dabija said that we survived with the poetry of Mihai Eminescu. "Parents kept Eminescu's book after icon. We learned Romanian after Eminescu's poetry," said Nicolae Dabija.

Present at the event, the Minister of Culture, Monica Babuc noted that today we celebrated the National Culture Day, which was marked simultaneously in Moldova and Romania. "We exist in the Romanian language and that language is baptized by Eminescu. What is happening in patriotic education and the language must be educated by Mihai Eminescu's creation," said Monica Babuc.

The ambiance of the nineteenth century was provided by a group of young artists and actors dressed in period costumes, designed by artist Iurie Matei. The actors’ parade was organized with the support of the National Opera and Ballet "Maria Biesu" and the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts.

In the same ambience of the nineteenth century, it was opened the exhibition "Mihai Eminescu ... In me beats the heart of the world!". The event, organized in partnership with the Municipality of Chisinau, was held in the area behind the statue of Stefan cel Mare in Chisinau.

In his speech, the director of the Romanian Cultural Institute "M. Eminescu" in Chisinau, Valeriu Matei outlined that, consisted of 24 banners, the exhibition traced the biography of the poet, presenting a series of documents and photos of the poet, prose fragments, articles, poems and letters. A major section is devoted to correspondence between Mihai Eminescu and Veronica Micle. A substantial place occupies comments on the work and personality of the poet made over time by important figures of Romanian culture from Titu Maiorescu, G. Ibraileanu, G. Calinescu and to Mircea Eliade and Constantin Noica etc.

The honoring of our national poet went on at the National Theatre "Mihai Eminescu", where it was held a musical-poetic performance entitled "A life otherwise written in the holy essence book ...".
