Moldovan premier backs social campaign People Help Trees

Chisinau, 29 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip has spoken about the damages caused by the heavy snowfall and the uniting of citizens for liquidating these damages, at a programme, Buna Seara (Good Evening), aired by the national TV channel of Moldova, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

During discussions, the prime minister highlighted the efficient work of the crisis cell, as well as the mobilization of citizens who helped mobile teams in the process of Chisinau’s sanitation. “Beyond the feeling of sorrow, I have a feeling of pride for the residents of the Chisinau city, who went out of their houses to work, cleaned yards, took out branches and trees. I have made an appeal for mobilization for the days to come too, as not everybody was receptive to move less in the city. The works will continue on Saturday and Sunday and we repeatedly urge people to give us a helping hand,” Pavel Filip said.    

At the same time, the prime minister welcomed a social campaign launched by the national public TV station, People Help Trees, which urges people to contribute to the re-establishment of the Botanical Garden. Pavel Filip gave assurances that this problem would not remain without the authorities’ attention. “We will never be able to assess this damage at its true value. It is not just about money, but about the fact that we need time for these trees to grow and the Garden to revive. We will identify funds at the government and foreign partners and we will apply for European grants to re-establish maybe a more beautify garden,” the prime minister said.   

The Chisinau-based Botanical Garden was serious hit by the bad weather from 20-21 April. The heavy snowfall destroyed more than 80 per cent of the decorative trees and bushes of the Garden’s genofund, and about ten million lei is necessary to clean and re-establish the Garden.
