PM says Moldova needs supremacy of law, education for people to live in well-being

Chisinau, 18 May /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today attended a festivity of marking the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus+ Programme, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

In his speech, the prime minister said that, through implementing the EU instruments, the European project Erasmus+ essentially contributed to the modernization of Moldova’s education system and served as example of efficient cooperation between states in one of the priority sectors, - investments in education.

“When we speak about a Moldova where people live in well-being, we need two basic elements: supremacy of law and education. The Erasmus project has managed to contribute to the country’s development through the qualitative and structural change of the higher education and to become a success story for the present youth,” the prime minister said.   

In the context, Pavel Filip stressed that the Programme helps improve prospects for young people’s employment, giving possibility to develop professional qualities demanded on the labour market and to make a successful career. “I regret that, during my studentship, I did not have such opportunities, to spend half a year at a European university and to have possibility to develop relations with colleagues from other countries. At the same time, I would like the Erasmus experience help Moldova become an attractive destination for foreign students,” Filip said.    

Attending the event, Head of the European Union Delegation in Moldova Pirkka Tapiola said that the Erasmus+ Programme offered Moldovan young people education of European quality, which contributes to the country’s development. “It is important that young people who leave to gain knowledge come back, as namely these specialists will ensure Moldova’s prosperity,” Pirkka Tapiola said.   

Erasmus+ is the European Union’s programme which backs actions in the fields of education, training, youth and sport. The project was launched in Moldova 23 years ago, to support efforts of modernizing the education system and professional training nationally.
