Moldovan parliament declares construction of Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline public utility of national interest

Chisinau, 9 June /MOLDPRES/ - The works of constructing the gas pipeline Ungheni-Chisinau have been declared public utilities of national interest. The parliament today adopted a law, which provides for the expropriation of plots of land due to be crossed by the gas pipeline and compensation of owners’ damages.

Sixty four MPs voted the draft in the final reading. The act sees that the gas pipeline, due to have a length of 120 km and through which Chisinau will receive gas from Romania, will cross more settlements, including Radenii Vechi, Todiresti, Pirlita (Ungheni district) Tuzara, Pitusca, Niscani, Temeleuti, Valcinet, Sadova, Calarasi. The gas pipeline will also cross the area nearby the villages of Tohatin, Stauceni, Gratiesti and Ghidighici (Chisinau municipality).  

Under the document, the cost of acquisition of the land plots due to be crossed by the gas pipeline and the expenses for compensating the damages of the land owners hit by the construction works are estimated at 600,000 euros. The works of constructing the gas transportation pipeline Ungheni – Chisinau, which represent the second phase of implementing the project titled, Pipeline of Interconnection of Natural Gas Transport System from Romania, with the Gas Transport System from Moldova, will start in the near future and are to be completed till late 2018.      

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has provided Moldova with loans worth 41 million euros for works of designing and construction of the gas pipeline.
