Chisinau, 24 August /MOLDPRES/- The Foreign and European Integration Ministry issued to MOLDPRES Agency a press release on initiation of enrollment in the agenda of the annual session of the UN General Assembly of an item entitled: “Withdrawal of Russian troops from Moldova”.

The communiqué reads:

“On 21 July 2017, the Moldovan parliament adopted the Declaration on withdrawal of Russian military forces from the country, which requires the government and president of Moldova to promote the adoption of a resolution by the General Assembly of the United Nations on the withdrawal of Russian military troops.

Under these provisions, through a letter addressed to UN Secretary General, the government initiated the enrollment in the agenda of the 72nd session of UN General Assembly of an item entitled: “Withdrawal of Russian troops from Moldova”.

At the beginning of the annual session in September, the UN General Assembly will consider requests of member states, including Moldova, and will decide which items proposed by the countries will be included in the agenda of the 72nd session and which ones will be postponed for future sessions.

Possible inclusion in the agenda of the item proposed by Moldova will allow examination constructively by the UN General Assembly of the issue on the illegal presence of the Russian Armed Forces Operational Group in the country over the past 25 years, which is contrary to constitutional provisions, permanent neutrality, sovereignty and imperative principles of international law.

The initiative of Moldova does not raise and does not seek the withdrawal of Russian troops belonging to the trilateral peacekeeping force operating in the security zone of the Transnistrian region. All information on the matter recently spread in media, particularly from Russia, distorts both the essence of Moldova’s initiative at the UN and the stipulations of the documents submitted to the UN Secretary General”.
