About 620,000 tons of grapes to be harvested in 2017

Chisinau, 16 October /MOLDPRES/- About 620,000 tons of grapes will be harvested this year, of which about 110,000 tons are table varieties. Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Vasile Batca made the statement today.
The harvest of this year is higher than the previous year, which amounted to 615,700 tons. “Of the current harvest, 7.2 tons of grapes have already been exported. However, earlier this year, farmers also sold 23,000 tons of grapes stored in refrigerators. The main destinations where we exported grapes are the EU countries, including Romania. Also, the production was exported to Belarus and Russia”, he said.
In 2017, the area of vineyards in all households represents about 135,000 hectares.
Table grapes are sold both on the domestic and export markets.
In terms of administrative territorial units, grapes are harvested in Cahul, Causeni, Ialoveni, Hancesti and Gagauzia.
