Moldovan industry grew by 7.4% in eight months of 2018

Chisinau, 26 October /MOLDPRES/- In January-August 2018, industrial production increased by 7.4% against the same period in 2017.
According to Economy and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici, the main factors contributing to boosting the activity of the industrial branches include the expansion of the activity of foreign investors in the free economic zones, increase of the external and internal demand for domestic products, opening of the foreign markets and use of the opportunities offered by the international economic cooperation agreements and positive developments in the agricultural sector.
The Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure noted that the manufacturing industry continues to be the main branch that intensifies the growth of the industrial sector. In eight months, manufacturing industry, which produces 82% of industrial production, grew by 7.5%.
The energy sector also grew positively (+ 6.8%), largely supported by increased business activity. The extractive industry returned to an upward trend, recording a positive result of 9.4%.
Among the most progressive industrial branches that led to industrial growth in January-August 2018 are the automotive industry, light industry, energy production and supply and food industry.
