Specialists from both banks of Dniester to develop measures for combating misinformation

Chisinau, 10 January /MOLDPRES/ - Transparency International-Moldova and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) informs about the registration of participants from the two banks of the Dniester in a hackathon titled, Dniester TruthBridge. This is the place where people will create digital instruments for the prevention and combating of misinformation and the discourse inciting to hatred. The event will take place on 26-27 January 2024 and is meant for programmers, designers, experts in communication, journalists, specialists in cyber security from both banks of Dniester and the applications for participations can be submitted till 22 January.       

During 24 hours, the participants will work, test and experiment, turning their concepts of innovative solutions into functional prototypes, assisted by mentors from Moldova, Romania and Georgia, professionals in the field of visualization of data from the online environment, media experts and analysts in the field of prevention and combating of misinformation, specialists in IT and development of applications, etc. ‘’Also, the participants will benefit from mentorship on how they should present their ideas of projects creatively and convincingly and to attract the attention of the audience, thus enhancing the chances to get support. The prototypes will be assessed by a jury made up of representatives of the organizers and development partners,’’ UNDP said.          

The most innovative three prototypes will be financially backed, in order to be implemented. Grants worth 5,500 dollars each will be provided, with the money provided in two installments: half of the sum at the beginning of the project and the second half – after the solution is developed.   

The winning teams will be consulted and guided by Transparency International-Moldova and UNDP. Both the users of social networks and journalists, the fact-checking networks, etc. will benefit from the final projects. The hackathon is carried out with the support of the project, Building of sustainable and inclusive peace, consolidation of confidence and social cohesion in Moldova. The project is financed by the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund and is implemented by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), UNDP and UN Women.
