Moldova's export of plums, sweet cherries, apricots, cherries, peaches increase by 82 per cent in 2023

Chisinau, 13 January /MOLDPRES/ - The export of plums, sweet cherries, apricots, cherries and peaches increased by 82 per cent in 2023 against 2022. Deputy Prime Minister, Economic Development Digitalization Minister Dumitru Alaiba has unveiled figures to this effect.       

According to the deputy PM, the value of the export in this respect amounted to 1,446 million lei or over 81 million dollars. As much as 61 per cent of the exports went to the European Union. The main markets for Moldovan fruits are Romania (16 per cent), Poland (12 per cent), Germany (10 per cent), Latvia (4 per cent), the Netherlands (3 per cent).  

„This growth is not only an economic index, but also the result of our farmers’ work. We will support them through the diversification of the export markets. We got the extension of the liberalized trade with EU; the Free Trade Agreement with EFTA was signed and the updating of the Free Trade Agreement with Turkey is advancing. We are making these efforts, in order to back all branches of our economy. To supply qualitative products and services,’’ Dumitru Alaiba said.   

In July 2023, the European Parliament ruled to prolong by one year the suspension of the taxes and quotas of import applicable on the products exported from Moldova to the European Union.
