Chisinau, 15 Jan. /MOLDPRES/- ATA carnet issued by Chambers of Commerce from 78 states will also be recognized in the Republic of Moldova as a transit document. Thus, starting from 2024, holders of ATA Carnets transiting the territory of the Republic of Moldova will be exempted from the need to complete transit customs declarations.

"According to the customs legislation, which entered into force in 2024, the customs authority accepts ATA Carnets as a transit document for foreign goods transiting the Republic of Moldova (external transit)", announced the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of the Republic of Moldova.

The ATA carnet is an international customs document, which replaces the customs declaration and guarantee, reduces customs clearance costs and time, and all formalities are carried out at border customs posts.

During 2023, CCI issued 160 ATA Carnets for the temporary export of goods worth over 32 million lei (1.6 million euros), which is about 30% more than in 2022.

According to the number of Carnets issued, Moldova ranks 52nd out of the 78 countries that apply the ATA system, the first three countries being Great Britain, Switzerland and Germany. Annually, at the international level, about 170 thousand Carnets are issued for goods worth about 25 billion US dollars.
