Moldovan president on National Culture Day

Chisinau, 15 Jan. /MOLDPRES/- On National Culture Day and the birthday of great poet Eminescu, President Maia Sandu announces that in 2024 Bookfest Chisinau will be held under the High Patronage of the presidents of Romania and the Republic of Moldova. The head of state notes that in recent years, more and more quality festivals and events are gaining momentum and gaining more and more audiences both in the country and abroad, the presidential press service has reported.

"During this winter vacation, I met a group of students from Chisinau, who entered first grade this year, and together we browsed and read the children's books that we have on the shelves of the library at the Presidency. Interest in reading, especially among children, and access to quality books must be supported in all ways and at all levels," the head of state said.

Maia Sandu emphasizes that only through access to culture and reading can mindsets be changed, generations of free-thinking people can be formed.

"The children who read, the educated young people, who choose the theater, the book, the beautiful development are the adults of tomorrow who will choose the word instead of the weapon, will have the courage to defend the learned values and will build a society where there is respect and good understanding", the president said.
