In his speech, Ambassador of the Republic’s Republic of China to Moldova Yan Wenbin said that today the people were present at the launch of the first number of the postage stamp, dedicated to the Year of the Dragon 2024, issued by Moldova’s Post. ‘’The issuance of a postage stamp which displays the signs of the Chinese zodiac is a first ever event both in Moldova and in the relations between China and Moldova. This fully proves that the friendship, mutual understanding and the cultural exchange between the two countries have reached a new level,’’ the Ambassador said.

”The emission of stamps dedicated to the 2024 year, of the Dragon, according to the Chinese zodiac, was initiated by the Embassy of China in Moldova, organized and implemented by Moldova’s Post. The author of the postage stamp is the famous Moldovan artist, Vladimir Melnic and Mrs. Victoria Tanase did a great job in the organization and coordination of this project. In this context, I would like to take advantage of this occasion, in order to express my sincere gratitude to all those who contributed to the launch of this postage stamp. At the same time, I would like to sincerely thank all Moldovan friends from diverse circles of the society, who care about, support and promote the friendship and cooperation between China and Moldova!’’ the Chinese diplomat noted.

According to the official, the Spring Festival and the Chinese zodiac are very old cultures and unique people’s customs in China. Each year symbolizes one of those 12 zodiac animals, which forms a repeated cycle of 12 years and which fully shows the people’s wish for a wonderful life and a harmonious coexistence between the man and the nature. Nowadays, these people’s customs and cultures become ever more popular all over the world. Recently, at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, a resolution was adopted, according to which the Chinese Spring Festival is included in the list of the holidays of the United Nations. According to the lunar calendar, 2024 is the Year of Dragon. The Dragon symbolizes the welfare, strength, trust, joy, energy and prosperity. The postage stamps, developed by the Moldovan side, perfectly convey the picture and the significance of the Dragon.

”I and sure that the first cooperation of this kind between the Embassy of China and the Moldovan side is quite successful, opening another window for the Moldovan people to understand China. And I hope that this cooperation will be able to continue in the long run as well. The Spring Festival will come in just one week and, according to the Chinese tradition, I would like to wish you everybody a Happy New Year. I wish you good health and all the best, prosperity and grandeur for China and Moldova and much happiness for the people of both countries; may the friendship and cooperation get to new heights!,’’ the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China also said.

Attending the event, the state secretary at the Economic Development and Digitalization Ministry, Cristina Ceban, said postage stamps  dedicated to the Chinese zodiac were launched in Moldova for the first time ever. ‘’The Chinese New Year is a very ancient holiday, which marks the beginning of a new lunar cycle and represents from the cultural viewpoint a revival, a holiday full of traditions which took deep roots in the ancestral symbolism. The present emission of postage stamps is of special value, as it enhances, first of all, the consolidation of the partnership and friendship relations between Moldova and the People’s Republic of China,’’ Cristina Ceban said.
