Chisinau, Feb. 6 /MOLDPRES/- Romania will further support Moldova and will be a close partner in all initiatives meant to help deepen the reform processes, develop and modernize the economy, increase the well-being and prosperity of citizens, consolidate stability and security.

Together with Romanian counterpart Luminița Odobescu, Minister Mihai Popșoi agreed on the deepening the bilateral Strategic Partnership and the full use of our common identity heritage.

"We appreciated the excellent cooperation and mutual support we benefit from within regional and international organizations, we maintain close and intense communication with Romania in a difficult geopolitical context, caused by the unjust war of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, a war that directly affects us, both states but also the entire region. The last 2 years have been a great challenge for the Republic of Moldova, but also an opportunity to transform positively on the path of European integration. In this process we have benefited from massive assistance from Romania in the development, modernization and resilience of our state, we appreciate the permanent solid support of Romanian diplomacy, the government, the Parliament, the Presidency, including the MEPs who helped us achieve this important decision of the European Council of December 14.

In this context, I was assured once again that Romania will continue to give us comprehensive and solid support in projects aimed at strengthening energy security, infrastructure development, advancement during European integration, as well as the development of institutional capacities for the effective implementation of reforms in Republic of Moldova.

We want to boost bilateral economic cooperation and plan to organize the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation.

Romania remains on the first place as a commercial partner of the Republic of Moldova and is in the top of the rankings of the main investors in the Republic of Moldova, the volume of investments being on the rise, as well as the number of Romanian companies in the Republic of Moldova.

In terms of energy, in December 2023, our countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding on interconnection projects with the natural gas and electricity networks. Thus, we will more easily achieve the goals of being integrated into the European energy system through Romania.

I thanked Minister Odobescu for opening up and reconfirming the solid support that we continuously have from Romania. For the Republic of Moldova, the last few years have been a unique opportunity to transform positively and advance on the European integration. In this process, we benefited fully from the support of Romanian diplomacy, which has an essential role in our European path - which we are extremely grateful for.

I approached the security situation in the region and the implications of the Russian aggression of the unjust bloody war against Ukraine. It will soon be 10 years since the illegal annexation of the Crimean Peninsula by the Russian Federation. Thus, we continue to strongly condemn the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine, which is a serious violation of international law and the commitments assumed by the Russian Federation. Ukraine's victory is indispensable for security and stability in the Black Sea region", Popșoi said.
