Chisinau, 6 February /MOLDPRES/ - The first meeting within the High-Level Dialogue between Moldova and the European Union in the transports sector, launched in Strasbourg today, will take place in Brussels on 19 February. European Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean has made statements to this effect at a news conference held jointly with Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spinu.

„Today, EU opens a high-level dialogue in the transports sector with Moldova. This is a new chapter in the European Union’s cooperation with Moldova and it is an important one for Moldova’s European integration way, as well as for the Union’s connectivity, in general, in the Eastern part. I feel honoured that we have reached this stage in which we can bring Moldova closer to Romania and the European Union through the transport infrastructure,’’ European Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean said.

The official noted that the dialogue would be focused on the identification of the priorities and possibilities of financing, being, at the same time, an additional instrument to the working formats which regard the process of negotiation on Moldova’s accession to the European Union.

The first round of discussions within this format will be held in Brussels on 19 February and will be focused on all ways of transport and such issues as safety, digitalization and sustainability. ‘’We will discuss Moldova’s role in the solidarity corridors which are important for Ukraine, for Moldova, maintaining the flow of goods which enter and go out of the European Union,’’ the European Commissioner for Transport stressed.

Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spinu said that the launch of the high-level dialogue between Moldova and EU in the transports sector was a confirmation of the excellent cooperation between Moldova and EU in this sector. ‘’The today’s event confirms once again that Moldova moves with firm steps to EU and the transports sector is a priority. Moldova is not alone; we feel the EU’s support and this makes us be more confident, surer and more optimistic,’’ the minister added.
