Moldovan electoral body submitted notification to Ministry of Justice

Chisinau, February 14 /MOLDPRES/- Central Electoral Commission /CEC/ notified the Ministry of Justice to oblige ŞANSĂ (Chance) Party to submit to the Commission the necessary information to carry out the complex control of the financing of the electoral campaign related to the general local elections of November 5, 2023, initiated by the CEC on November 8, 2023.

According to the CEC, the party's representatives did not cooperate with the electoral authority, did not comply with the Commission's request to show at its headquarters and did not present the documents. So, the control group did not have direct access to all the accounting records and/or primary documents that were the basis of the accounting records held by the electoral competitor. Respectively, the control was limited only to the examination of the data from the financial reports of the electoral competitor ŞANSĂ Party, the additional official information upon the request of the Commission from the State Fiscal Service, the General Inspectorate of the Border Police and those collected by the control group.

According to CEC members, in accordance with the Law on Political Parties, the activity of the political party can be limited if its actions cause serious damage to political pluralism or fundamental democratic principles, for not submitting the report on financial management or the information necessary to carry out supervision and control of political party financing, within the term and format set by the Central Electoral Commission.

CEC announced that it notified the State Fiscal Service to verify the correctness of the collection of donations by ȘANSĂ Party apparently in the absence of primary documents with special regime.
