Meeting with Cahul farmers focused on solutions to recover situation in region

Chisinau, February 15 /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) announces that during last night's meeting of Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, the head of MAIA, with the farmers of the Cahul district, several issues were clarified, aimed at improving the situation in the agro-industrial sector in the region.

The official said that to mitigate the impact of the 2023 drought on corn, the government allocated 50 million lei as financial support for farmers. "In the southern area, farmers will receive up to 2,500 lei/ha. With the publication in the Official Journal of the decision, the call for submission of files will be launched. This will be announced additionally, officially," Bolea said.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and the research institutes proposed as their task the development of special agricultural development programs for the southern part of the Republic of Moldova. "The agricultural sector will be supported through research to effectively respond to new needs and trends," explained the deputy prime minister.

Improving irrigation infrastructure is recognized as a necessity for the revival of agriculture in the region.
