Chisinau, 15 February /MOLDPRES/ - The European Union’s role is to support Moldova before the threats it is facing and to contribute to their prevention. European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson  made statements to this effect at a news conference held jointly with Interior Minister Adrian Efros in Chisinau today. The conference was held following the ninth operational meeting of the EU’s Security HUB, during which the Border’s Management was discussed.

The European official referred to the good cooperation with Moldova, the common security and the consolidation of borders. ‘’Moldova’s security strategy mentions two principal threats: Russia and corruption. I assure you that the country is not alone; EU will always be with you, in order to defend the democracy and freedom. Today, we discussed the cooperation in the security sector, the integrated management of borders, the enforcement of the law, reforms, the judicial system and the country’s way to the European integration,’’ Ylva Johansson said.

For his part, Interior Minister Adrian Efros noted that, at the today’s event, EU had confirmed the unconditional support provided to Moldova. ‘’We are not alone before this hybrid war. We have reliable partners, which provide us with support through different programmes, so that Moldova develops its resilience in the security sector and the management of state borders. We want to have the security belt which provides a guarantee both to the citizens of Moldova and of the entire Europe. At the same time, we want to have the capacity to retort to the dangers. At the today’s event, we made the analysis of the best strategies approved in other countries. We are set for Moldova to become a reliable partner, so that EU can rely on us,’’ Adrian Efros said.

European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson is on a working visit to Chisinau. The visit’s agenda provides for meetings with President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
