Moldovan PM visits family business specialized in cultivation, processing of plums

Chisinau, 15 February /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean today visited the Prun-Ovicgor company, specialized in the cultivation and processing of plums. The business belongs to the Gorceag family from the Varzaresti village, central Nisporeni district, which holds 27 hectares of plum trees, its own drying room and a hall for the extraction of fruit stones, sorting and packing.    

According to the government’s communication department, in the last years, the company has managed to develop its production capacities and substantially increase the exports. About 450 tons of dry plums are annually produced here, with the company being one of the biggest producers of Moldova. Besides its own production, the company purchases plums from other producers from all over Moldova. Ninety per cent of the dry plums are exported to the European Union, especially to Italy and Spain, as well as to such countries as Morocco, Ukraine and Belarus.

PM Dorin Recean appreciated the fact that the Gorceag family contributed to the development of an important economic sector of Moldova and continued to invest in boosting the results achieved.

The entrepreneurs also referred to the subsidies from which they had benefited so far through the Agency of Investments and Payments in Agriculture. On the next period, business people will submit files also for other programmes, such as the 373 governmental programme for the support of entrepreneurs, in order to extend the space of production and invest in equipment.
