Chisinau, 16 February /MOLDPRES/ - The overall capacity set in the photovoltaic panels based on the mechanism of net metering tripled in 2023 and reached 115 MW, against 42 MW in the beginning of the year before. The total capacity grew 80-fold against the 2018 year. The Energy Ministry has unveiled information to this effect.

The mechanism of support regards the end consumers who own a power station with a set power of up to 200 kW and which produces electric energy from renewable resources for their own consumption, with right to deliver the surplus of energy to the power network. Given that it achieved the goals of policies, the net metering was replaced by the mechanism of net invoicing as of 1 January.

Thus, according to available data by the National Centre for Sustainable Energy, in January 2024, the overall number of beneficiaries of the net metering mechanism in Moldova stood at 5,051 beneficiaries. In 2018, when the mechanism was launched, there were 57 beneficiaries with an overall set power of 0.5 MW.
